"Jean Martinon may be best known as a conductor, but he was, of course, a composer as well, and a symphonist too, with four to his credit. I had only ever heard the last, which I acquired on an old LP many years ago, coupled with Peter Mennin's 7th. The 4th I remember as being somewhat austere, but here is the 3rd, which is a different matter. The finale is a riotous assembly of Irish folk tunes!"
