I was scrolling through the categories yesterday, noticing that "Performance, instruments and technique" had nothing in it for electronic media, no tape decks, no turntables, no circuitry, no laptops or other kinds of computers. Today I noticed this category, "Music and computers," in "Music as related to other fields."

But since computers have been used for almost sixty years as both instruments and aids to composition, maybe this should be in the "Performance, et cetera" section. (Of course, that still leaves out tape recorders, CD players, turntables, electronic circuitry, and the like. Any moderators in the room willing to take up this issue? It doesn't seem like this forum is taking off in any spectacular way, nor that there'll be enough members that can discuss any of the musics of the past 60 years that use electricity. But still, there it is. Maybe make a nice category and just see if anyone fills it up, eh?)

I think most of those who are posting here hope that the forum will take off, and it deserves too.  However, the nature of the material discussed here is probably not immediately susceptible to "spectacular" take-offs...  a slow-burn approach seems more likely and more suitable, as word gathers that there is serious discussion, valuable information, access to unusual and rare recordings, and a level-headed approach to the Arts in general to be had here.

I hope members might take the opportunity to recommend the forum to their friends and colleagues?  Word-of-mouth is the best kind of promotion a forum like this might have, I believe?   It does need to develop a "critical mass" of participation so that discussions are developed and maintained with a plurality of viewpoints and input that keeps them interesting and worthwhile  ;)

Sweet! Now let us hope with Reiner that we achieve critical mass, whether soon or late.

Thanks. (Now I suppose I should post in that new category, shouldn't I? Fair's fair.)
