One of my absolute favourite late twentieth century operas is John Adams' Nixon in China (1987), which I was lucky enough to see in a splendid and thrilling production by English National Opera way back in 2000...  A firm admirer of Adams' music. Any other fans? :) |

A firm admirer of Adams' music. Any other fans? :) I forgot that one! ::) I don't know the opera;but I like the orchestral work The Chairman Dances! And I seem to remember enjoying an Lp of his music,borrowed from the library! Back in the 1980's,I believe?! |

Not me. But, as my wise old mother used to say, "It wouldn't do if we were all the same". If I had to listen to anything by a minimalist composer, it would probably be Philip Glass. But only if I had to... |

Lucky so-and-so! Adams is one of my favourite living composers - please give us a list of recommended recordings if possible. Besides Nixon, I only know Harmonium (1980), Short Ride in a Fast Machine (1986), The Wound-Dresser (1989), The Death of Klinghoffer (1991), Violin Concerto (1993) and the Doctor Atomic Symphony (2007) - but what I know I really like! :) |

I also saw MET performance in a theater which was great too. I'm going off memory but think the conductor was Alan Gilbert. |
