she is (and always was) beyond all hope of benefit from human intervention; but I'm happy to say that the engineer did manage to repair my boiler (which actually looks not too dissimilar to that in the above photograph)!

Alas, I am also beyond redemption (the warranty ran out decades ago). I rejoice to hear that your boiler is in a more blessèd condition...
