I adore the Hudson River School!

Don't worry, Maris, I've already got something prepped...

And don't get me started on the Hudson River School - Bierstadt, Church, Heade... fantastic. I was lucky enough to see the block-buster exhibition American Sublime: Landscape Painting in the United States 1820-1880 at the Tate way back in 2002.

I adore the Hudson River School!

Y'all will think me an ignoramus (and rightly so too!) because I had never heard of the Hudson River School. A quick sequence of clicks around the internet has shown me what I had been missing. Such a plethora of well-executed and atmospheric pictures will be perused over time and enjoyed. A favourite American artist of mine is from a different era and of a very different tradition - Edward Hopper. I like the way he takes the 'everyday' and finds tensions and drama in it. Just saying... ;)

No worries, the Hudson River School is lined up for some eye-candy posts!

I also love Otto Dix, Egon Schiele, Marc Chagall and Edward Burra, and (random cross-discipline thought approaching) I think that John Adams wrote the finest modern opera in his Nixon in China...but these are obviously personal tastes...
