I'd like to introduce discussion of Allaudin Khan,

father and teacher of,
- Ali Akbar Khan
(

- Annapurna Devi
(

teacher of,
- Ravi Shankar
- Nikhil Banerjee
(
)
to name his most famous pupils.
As well as Hindustani music, Allaudin Khan was reportedly adept at some kind of western music, though what exactly, I don't know.
Why introduce him? In addition to spawning the above great musicians, composing widely-adopted new ragas, his playing, of which only a few hours is available is extraordinarily haunting.
I'd like to find a way to discover and consider principles and values, in composing and performance, shared between Indian classical music and that of the west. Any questions or comments to help start this off would be most welcome. Thank you.
By the way, I didn't expect to see the videos embedded in the post. If this was not intended by the board owners and is considered cumbersome, it's fine with me if they remain only as links.
