Vagn Holmboe was born in Horsens (Denmark) in 1909. He gave us thirteen symphonies:

Symphony No. 1, 1935, for chamber orchestra
Symphony No. 2, 1938–9
Symphony No. 3, 1941, Sinfonia rustica
Symphony No. 4, 1941, Sinfonia sacra for chorus and orchestra
Symphony No. 5, 1944
Symphony No. 6, 1947
Symphony No. 7, 1950
Symphony No. 8, 1952, Sinfonia boreale
Symphony No. 9, 1969
Symphony No. 10, 1972
Symphony No. 11, 1981
Symphony No. 12, 1988
Symphony No. 13, 1994

Also twenty string quartets. Here is his fifth symphony, opus 35, from 1944:
