In 1951---I was eleven years of age---I began to put together a collection of train tickets. Eventually I obtained several thousand of them. My father threw most of them away, but I did manage secretly to retain a small box of the most exceptional items.

At that date railway tickets all over the world conformed to the "Edmondson format"---thick cardboard, rectangular, 1+7⁄32 by 2+1⁄4 inches (31.0 by 57.2 mm), with a nominal thickness of 1⁄32 inch (0.79 mm). A wonderful series of pages may be found here

https://chriswhitetickets.yolasite.com/

describing in detail the content of these tickets and their manufacture.

Also please see here:

On the Internet there is plenty of information about coins and postage stamps, but not a tremendous lot so far about train tickets.

Finally, this is a forum, so please a) submit your own contributions and b) write some comments about what other people have written. Thank you.
