Finland (Suomi) is a republic at the northeastern end of the Baltic Sea. Forests cover much of the country and the principal industry is lumbering and paper manufacture. Other important exports are iron and steel, furs, chemicals and textiles. The Finns are a progressive people with the world's highest literacy rate, ninety-nine per cent. Area: 130,160 square miles. Languages: Finnish and Swedish. Capital: Helsinki.
