Now here's an interesting composer ;D! Here's the Chambers Dictionary of Music's article on him: He studied at the Warsaw Conservatory and with Riemann and Nikisch at Leipzig. On his return to Poland he founded a symphony orchestra at Wilno. He later lived in Paris 1914-21, and withdrew to a monastery in modern-day Croatia in 1926. There is a disc of his choral Orthodox works on Acte Preable (with works by Twardowski), but I'm more interested in his seven symphonies ;D!
Here's some of Rogowski's compositions:
-operas "Tamara" (1918) and "Prince Marco" (1930) -film opera "Un Grand Chagrin de la Petite Ondine" (1920) -ballets "St. John's Eve" and "Fairy Tale" (1923) -seven symphonies (1926-51) -orchestral suites "Pictures of My Daughter", "The Seasons", "Les Sourieres", "Villafranca", "Phantasmagoria (1920), "Sporting Scene", and "Fantasy Pictures" -"A l'antique" for violin and small orchestra -"Cinq moments lyrique" for violin and orchestra (1936) -"Concert bucolique" for violin and orchsetra (1946) -"Primavera" for violin and orchestra (1931, 7 minutes): Tobias' site lists a recording of this piece (on an LP, I presume). -quartet for four cellos -suites for six and nine instruments -"Three Caprices" for colorautra soprano, viola, and piano (1922) -Three Songs "Chansons d'Automne" for soprano and viola (1916) -"Conte merveilleux" for viola and piano (1903) -piano pieces -choral works with and without accompaniment
So, does anyone know more about this composer, or, even better, have any recordings of his music they could upload? Probably Marek (markinew), with his encyclopedic knowledge of Polish music, will be able to find out something more about this intriguing composer :).

The only place where I have been able to find any information about this intriguing Russian composer is from the Chambers Dictionary of Music. Here is the short paragraph about Shekter: "He made a close study of Turkmen folk music, and based some of his works on it. He was a pupil of Nikolai Myaskovsky (1881-1950) at the Moscow Conservatory." Here is the worklist (probably incomplete) given: -"The Year 1905", opera (1935, with Davidenko (whoever that is!)) -"The Son of the People", opera -Suite "Turkmenia" for orchestra -Five Symphonies (1929-51, including Symphony "Dithyramb" for the 20th anniversary of the Russian Revolution) -Piano Concerto -Song Cycles
He is about obscure as obscure gets, as none of his his music can be found anywhere! If anyone has any more information on this interesting composer, that would be most welcome :). I someone has something by him that they could upload...I would be ecstatic ;D!
Shekhter was a member of PROKOLL which had an intermediate position between RAPM and ASM and create first Uzbek opera http://books.google.it/books?id=3CDTqIc54NUC&lpg=PA120&ots=3AMVXAETLn&dq=%22boris%20shekhter%22&hl=it&pg=PA120#v=onepage&q=%22boris%20shekhter%22&f=false
