Thanks, Sicmu, for the Goleminov Symphony No.3. It is a composition that I've waited a long time to hear. The sound of this LP is fantastic due to your efforts in cleaning it up. Do you have his Violin Concerto?

Excerpts from many of Howard Blake's compositions can be heard here:

I have a performance of Movement for Orchestra (Symphony in One Movement) which I will upload soon. I have enjoyed his Piano Concerto for many years. It is tuneful (1st Movement); melancholy (2nd Movement); and uplifting (3rd Movement).

Thanks to all for the clarifications. I previously owned the LP that the Overture was taken from and posted all the information that was available. However, an error was just brought to my attention by a private message concerning a previous post at UC. An astute member observed that Cello Concertos Nos.1 & 2 are identical. Concerto No.1 was sent to me by a member of UC (also a member here) and I assumed the information was correct without comparing it to No.2 and posted it with his permission on UC. Cello Concerto No.2 is labeled correctly and was taken from an LP that I had in my possession. I will try to correct the posting at UC. It was also correctly brought to my attention that I should have uploaded No.2 into a different folder designated for previous posts from UC. I am sorry for the mistakes.

Sir,

Cannot find Akhiyan here, (where the search feature seems imperfect), nor on UC.

SBookman

Here you must first click on "Downloads" then type Akhinyan in search block. Be sure to spell it as I just did. On UC you can search from the home page but be sure you select "Search entire forum" and you must spell it Akhinian. Both of these spelling are different than the one you used in the quote above.

Thanks, Sicmu, for the Akhiyan 1st Symphony. Do you have his Symphony No.2?

It's on UC.

Thank you very much. The first time I read your post I read it as Symphony No.2 "Trombone Symphony" and completely missed the ";" inbetween.

Thanks, Sicmu, for the Akhiyan 1st Symphony. Do you have his Symphony No.2?

Thanks, sbookman, for the link. I've downloaded hundreds of compositions from that website but didn't think to look there for works by a Lebanese composer. Thanks to you I now have all the symphonies. And by the way, that is where my ancestors are from.

Do you have any of his symphonies that can be uploaded here?

Thanks--I should have known better.
55  OTHER ARTS / Television / PBS Broadcasts on: August 20, 2012, 02:45:08 pm
I have been looking for a particular PBS broadcast of "Live from Lincoln Center" for many years. It is No.79 dated October5, 1988. The program was Mahler Symphony No.1 and Dvorak's Cello Concerto. Zubin Mehta was the conductor and Hugh Downs was the announcer. I would like a video of the entire 2 hour performance including the interviews and comments. Can anyone please help?

I made this request twice on UC with no responses so please forgive me for duplicating it here.

By the way, there was an excellent movie a few years ago entitled "The Band's Visit" about a classical music group of Egyptian police officers who travel to Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab arts Center but wind up in the wrong city. It is one of my favorite movies and would have been the No.1 Foreign Movie of the year except the experts claimed too much English was spoken in it. The Egyptians couldn't speak Israelian and the Israelies couldn't speak Egyptian but the common language between them was English.

Frank, is the title of the Greiss symphonic poem you mention simply "Egyptian"? There is a symphony titled "Egypt", but it's probably not that. Thank you!

The name as it appears in the liner notes is "Symphonic Poem Misr (or Egypt). The work premiered in Alexandria in 1932 and thus became the first Egyptian work for symphony orchestra written by an Egyptian composer. A year later he composed his 2nd Symphony "The Desert" which I do not have.

Thanks for the uploads of Tarp's Symphonies. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed Symphony No.3 and your upload is a different performance than the one I have and in better sound. Do you have Symphonies Nos.4 & 9?

Best,
Frank

Any violin concerto on these 9 CDs I have to go for?

Best,
Tobias

You and I traded a few years ago and I sent you two VCs that you didn't have.

Best,
Frank

I would gladly upload my favorite Egyptian works from the 9 CDs I have but the rules here don't allow it. These CDs were purchased from the Egyptian Conservatory and have been unavailable for years but unless the rules change there is nothing I can do about it. I copied my favorite compositions from the 9 CD set and they filled 4 CDS. There is one thing I noticed over the years and that is your ears and brain can get "used" to bad sound after about 5 minutes of listening.
