I shall certainly try to listen to the Ignace Josef Pleyel, which I haven't encountered before. All the other symphonies on that list are well worth anyone's time. If only French composers in the nineteenth century hadn't been so obssessed with bloody opera, there might be many more such symphonies (and other instrumental music) to enjoy. |
