Title: Jan Koetsier
Post by: Tartini on September 01, 2012, 09:59:43 pm
Good evening everyone! I have just discovered the Dutch composer, Jan Koetsier's, first symphony. I think it is a very original work. How many more did he wrote? And are there any that are recorded? (cd, lp ,radio-recordings)? Regards!

Tartini, according to Michael Herman's Benelux and Swiss Symphonies Discography, Koetsier composed three numbered symphonies (no. 2 for chorus and orchestra, op.30 (1946) and no. 3, op. 40 (1954)), as well as a Brass Symphony, op. 80 (1979, has been recorded on CD twice), a Sinfonietta, op. 26 (1943, rev. 1960), a Sinfonia Concertante for winds and strings, op. 49b (1968), and Symphony "Demeter" (symphonic ballet), op. 25 (1943). So, if you count all of these, he composed seven symphonies altogether ;D.

Ok, thank you for the information! I found the symphony no.2 in a old recording in the "Concertgebouw serie"
(Audiophile), which I ordered. Hope it is listenable. More recordings from lp's and radio broadcasts maybe appears, hopefully, in this forum!

Hi,

don't you worry, all music of Koetsier, as far as I now it, is very well listenable.
I think he is at his best when creating for brass.

The symphony for brass is indeed highly recommended see here on Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spirits-Summit-Brass-Various-Composers/dp/B001LG4DDW/ref=sr_1_1_digr?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1346775199&sr=1-1)

Hi Elroel,

I have no doubt about the music itself, I was referring to the sound quality. I think it is recorded in the fifties. BTW, I saw that your posts in "Belgian music", in UC, was deleted. Will they be posted in this forum?

They were deleted by accident. I tried to replace them into another directory and something went wrong.
To answer your question: yes, they are going to be placed here at AMF. Already a portion of them has found a place in "Former UC posts" under the Belgian directory.

Right now busy digitizing some more Belgian work. All from lp's I bought in the late 1960s and in the 1970s.
You'll see them soon, I hope.
