Benjamin Britten was born in Lowestoft in 1913.

He is of course best known for his operas "The Turn of the Screw" and "Death in Venice".

He did though put out three weird string quartets, in respect of which, are not true music-lovers compelled to ask "What is going on?"

- String quartet no. 1, in D, opus 25 (1941)

The players were:

Andrew Kim, violin
Kenta Nomura, violin
Sam Panner, viola
Haena Lee, cello

- String quartet no. 2, in C, opus 36 (1945)

The players were:

Eunae Koh (Violin)
Jennifer Hsieh (Violin)
Maren Rothfritz (Viola)
Jamie Clark (Cello)

- String quartet no. 3, opus 94 (1975):

The players may have been the Friction quartet:

Mitso Floor
Kevin Rogers
Otis Harriel
Douglas Machiz

It says the 3rd Quartet was performed by the Ives Quartet.
