Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace was born in Greenwich in 1875. His novel "The Melody of Death" appeared (I am almost certain) in 1927. It contains sixteen chapters:

Wikipedia gives the date of this novel as 1915. And under his photograph it gives the date of Wallace's expiry as 1903!
