Here are two new/upcoming releases from Alba (besides the eagerly-awaited Merikanto Symphony 2) :):

-Nostalgia: Lyrical Finnish Music for Strings: includes short pieces by Kajanus, Sibelius, Jarnefelt, Melartin, Merikanto, Tram, Klami, Kaski, Madetoja, Ball, and Haapalainen (Central Ostrobothian Chamber Orchestra/Juha Kangas)

-Nordic Violin Music: Agnes Tschetschulin (1859-1942): Berceuse; Tor Aulin: Four Watercolors; Bengt Carlsen (1890-1953): Violin Sonata in E-flat minor (this should be an interesting piece!) (Anne Marie Astrom, violin; Sonja Fraki, piano; Emil Holmstrom, piano)

I received the OCO disc on Friday. Beautifully done! The Merikanto Canzone and the Raitio pieces are world premieres. The Klami Sonatine was available only on a small private CD years ago.

Very excited about the Nostalgia disk! String orchestra music is my favourite sort! :)

Bit disappointed with the contents - there are already recordings of many of those works, and a quick look through FIMIC will show that there are tons of short string orchestra pieces that could be recorded. Still, shouldn't complain :)
