And back to Tripe........I mean,Lennox Berkeley! (AH) ;D
I think Berkeley was pretty inconsistent - there is certainly some lovely stuff including the Four Poems of Saint Teresa, but sometimes the symphonies sit quite static and Nelson is a total bore. What else is in the British and Irish Music Archive? I can't seem to find it.
::)
Of course,I've got to remember that I only received those Lennox Berkeley cd's in the last week,or so,and I'm aware of the rush of blood that can occur,to the head,when playing a newly acquired cd for the first time! ::) I think the vintage performances on that emi centenary album enhanced my enjoyment,somewhat (Dennis Brain,for instance!). The fact that his Third Symphony only lasts around fifteen minutes might be another factor? I did enjoy what I heard,but
maybe I wouldn't be so keen if it lasted half an hour? (Like No's 1 & 2,which I have not heard!). I must admit I've avoided LB to date because I had some idea his music might be a bit dull,but I was pleasantly surprised by what I heard! But it's still early days! I thought I'd drop a Lennox Berkeley thread though,as he doesn't seem to get allot of attention on forums! (Although,he seems to have a few admirer's at the GMG Forum! The Concerto for Two Pianos appears to be the overall favourite there!)
