CPO (or cpo) are quite remarkably enterprising - Draeseke, Spohr, Atterberg, Siegfried Wagner, Ries, Potter, Goetz, Holbrooke, Boehe, van Gilse, Reznicek, Herzogenberg, Enna, Hausegger, Schreker, etc., etc.

A true cornucopia...

Even from listening to the snippets available at Presto Classical (https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/8683862--volbach-symphony-op-33-es-waren-zwei-konigskinder) one can hear that Volbach has an individual and most attractive voice. This is going on the "wants" list immediately.  :)

I received this disc as a Christmas present - it's a really enjoyable, full-blooded Romantic symphony. It certainly lives up to that arresting and powerful opening, I think.

It's a shame that he doesn't appear to have been a very prolific composer, at least from what I can find online. I was hoping there might be more symphonies and tone poems to be discovered.
