This splendid work has just been re-broadcast today on Radio 3 in the 2016 revival (a copy is in the archive). Apparently Lyrita agreed to commercially release it but one of the soloists objected on the grounds that he was "not at his best". Hang the other soloists, choruses and orchestra, not to mention Grace Williams' discography and her legacy!!! How egotistical...  ::) |

They should,at least,be able to vote on it! It is ridiculous! Just one person! And a major work by an important,pioneering Welsh composer,remains unrecorded!! "Ghastly little twerp" as E. L. Wisty would have observed Indeed! >:( |

I was going to re-type it as 'unavailable as a commercial recording',because,of course,music enthusiasts like us are,always (or,at least,usually) going to have off-air copies! But surely,the point of this thread was that some sensitive soul has blocked a commercially available release of this performance,thus denying access and enjoyment of this work to a wider audience,who aren't into music message boards and file sharing and downloading and filling our homes to the roof with cd's like we are?!! For instance,I recently bought a cd of the pioneering Welsh composer,Morfydd Owen,by post,from a shop in Aberystwyth,which would also have been on display there. Shops in Wales,specialising in Welsh music and books,often sell cd's of music by Welsh composers. Someone browsing a shop might pick up a cd of the Missa Cambrensis,there (if it was available on cd?!) who might not,otherwise,encounter it?!

music enthusiasts like us are,always (or,at least,usually) going to have off-air copies! 'Tis ever thus, and a good thing too! Very little would be preserved otherwise...  ...you need to hear any musical work more than once and often several times to assess it according to your own tastes and criteria. This simply cannot be done on a single one-off broadcast. :) |
