Hot on the heels of yesterday's Foerster upload, here's a more recent Czech composer in a very different style -- basically neoclassical, but with a strong Czech flavor and vivid pathos. The Second Symphony is my favorite, and for me one of the great Czech symphonies of the 20th century. Though I prefer Ančerl's recording (but can't post it here since it's available on CD) this one is still excellent.
Iša Krejčí (1904-1968)
Symphony No. 1 in D (1955) Lento -- Allegro feroce Scherzo: Allegro possibile Allegretto moderato Allegro vivo Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra Miloš Konvalinka, conductor Symphony No. 2 in C-sharp minor (1957) Molto allegro Scherzino: Allegro molto quasi presto Allegro moderato Allegro molto Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra Miloš Konvalinka, conductor
Symphony No. 3 in C (1963) Allegro Scherzino: Presto prestissimo Aria: Allegretto moderato Molto allegro
Symphony No. 4 (1966) Lento (non troppo) -- Moderato (non troppo lento) -- Allegretto vivace -- Andante (Tema con variazioni)
Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Jaromír Nohejl, conductor
from Czech Panton LPs, never reissued on CD

Great, thanks Maris! It's repertoire about which (until now) I knew the square root of zero... ;)
