For those of you with an interest in new opera and Japanese music, next week is the premiere of Akira Nishimura's first full-length opera "Asters", based on the Novella by Jun Ishikawa. The New National Theatre in Hatsudai, Tokyo, are putting this on and it's their first premiere for six years. Nishimura often uses traditional Japanese instruments like the shakuhachi or koto in his work. The story looks dark and very symbolic. Whether a broadcast or recording will be forthcoming I have no idea, but I'll be watching it next week. https://www.nntt.jac.go.jp/english/productions/opera/asters-2019.html
