I can strongly recommend the first two volumes of the Dante String Quartet's Stanford series on the Somm label, presumably volume three will finish with numbers 1, 2 and 6, the first two already being available on Hyperion. An exceptional series of works, this is perhaps the first significant contribution to the genre by a British composer and deserves repeated hearing...

We are fortunate that a significant number of Stanford's impressive chamber works besides the string quartets are now available:

Piano Quartet No. 1 in F, Op.15 (Naxos 8.573388)
Piano Quintet in D minor, Op.25 (Hyperion CDA67505)
Piano Trio No.1 in E flat, Op.35 (Naxos 8.572452)
Piano Trio No.2 in G minor, Op.73 (Naxos 8.573388)
String Quintet No.1 in F, Op.85 (Hyperion CDA67505)
Piano Quartet No.2 in C minor, Op.133 (Naxos 8.572452)
Piano Trio No.3 in A, Op.158 (Naxos 8.570416)
Fantasy for Horn Quintet in A minor (Hyperion CDA67434)

I was wondering about no. 6: irritating there being just one missing at the moment.
