This is truly a stand-out interpretation in every sense - even by the enviable standards of the Bavarian State Opera. The unflagging level of orchestral detail which Petrenko finds is an outstanding achievement. The singing is lyrical at every moment, never resorting to 'Helden' shouting or bluster.  Every note has a beauty of its own, inseperably woven into the text and meaning behind it.  A Gesamtkunstwerk indeed!

A production and concept that highlights the 'unremitting foolishness' of the nay-sayers on ignorant websites.

The great strength of the later Wagner is his harmonic invention. All the singing though is essentially formless and has to be a nuisance. Serious adult composers do not go for dressing up.

Many thanks for this link. I have downloaded it with Internet Download Manager. Three versions are on offer: very large, very very large, and tremendously large. I chose the first one, which gives a file 5.634 gigabytes in size, and took seven and a half hours to download.
