Promising start of a new series? I'm particularly interested in his symphonies. A Danish composer without a Wiki-page on the Danish Wiki, how come?

Yes, it is a little frustrating that this disc concentrates on the early, lighter music. The ten symphonies (1945-92) are a mouth-watering prospect :)

According to Da Capo's website the new cd will be the first in a series of three volumes featuring Symphonies Nos.1-3 and the Piano Concerto.

Now....the length of these works:

Symphony No.1 (1945): 28 minutes
Symphony No.2 (1949): 20 minutes
Symphony No.3 (1959): 23 minutes
Piano Concerto (1944):  18 minutes

....but (a) Da Capo has already a recording of the Piano Concerto in their catalogue (together with the Symphony No. 7 (1978)) and (b) why the first three symphonies and not the rest????? Nos. 4, 5 and 6 amount to only 70 minutes of music.

I think that an email to Da Capo may be called for!!

I have finally had a respomse from Da Capo.

The company has no plans to record any more Tarp after the release of the next two volumes. These cds will contain virtually all of the orchestral music written by Tarp between 1932 and 1962.  The first three symphonies are therefore included.

Between 1975 and 1992 Tarp wrote a further SEVEN symphonies.  Around twenty years ago Da Capo released a recording of the Symphony No.7 (1978). To record most of Tarp's earlier music and then just stop seems incredible to me!!

Fortunately Symphonies Nos. 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 can be heard in performances broadcast and now on You Tube.

Unfortunately, Dacapo cancels the recordings of the three promised symphonies. Got the news today. No more volumes of Tarp's orchestral works from Dacapo. :-\

Why do they cancel it? Expected low sales?

According to Jesper Nordin, Artistic Director of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, this is because they are prioritising other composers at the moment. An artistic priority, as he says.
