A little fantasy - imagine the following. The LSO (or Chicago SO or Berlin Phil. if you prefer) have come into some money to commission a new orchestral work, lasting around 30 mins. They aren't sure who to ask though, so they ask you to decide who is to receive the commission.

No restrictions on nationality, but obviously, it has to be someone capable of turning in the work. Who do you choose?

I thought John Pickard would be in with a shout! Me, I'd nominate Heather Schmidt.

Hadn't thought of her, but she would be a great choice as well!

Good choice. I could think of something of Johanna Doderer, as well

I want Aaron Jay Kernis' Symphony No. 5 and Kevin Puts' Symphony No. 5.  They are both excellent American symphonists and at no. 4.  I also want a Trombone Concerto from John Williams.  He has written a flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tuba concerto BUT NO TROMBONE CONCERTO!!
