2017 has seen CDs released of reconstructions of the complete film scores by Vaughan Williams
Scott of the Antarctic (Dutton) and Rózsa
Ben-Hur (Tadlow).
As part of its
Film Music Classics series (see:
https://www.naxos.com/series/film_music_classics.htm), in November Naxos are releasing a reconstruction of Shostakovich’s music for
Ovod (The Gadfly). The
Romance was popularised in the UK as the opening title to the excellent ITV series
Reilly, Ace of Spies, first televised in 1983, with Sam Neill in the title role. Whilst I have only listened to the op.97a Suite a couple of times, and do not have CDs of any of Shostakovich’s other film scores, this CD interests me sufficiently to purchase it.
