I'm not a Tchaikovsky expert, but as it was explained to me at a Russian Music conference, his Piano Concerto no 1 was edited extensively and parts were deleted from the original manuscript by P. Jurgenson publishing house before they published it.
And that has been the case up to now.   There is a recording of the original manuscript that is commercially available on Amazon..etc.

Apparently, http://musicbook.ru/ now has a complete collection of the unedited works of Tchaikovsky for sale to the public.

It is the Kirill Gerstein version of the concerto.  Here is some info:
Since 1894, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 has been published and performed in a version containing numerous unauthorized editorial alterations that were added posthumously. This is the first recording using the new scholarly edition by the Tchaikovsky Archive and Museum in Moscow of the 1879 version of the Piano Concerto - the version that was approved and conducted by Tchaikovsky until his last public appearance in 1893.

Review
"Perhaps the most striking aspect of Gerstein's interpretation is his ability to make the piano writing sound much lighter and more transparent than usual. Indeed, in several passages throughout the first two movements, dialogue between piano and woodwind achieves a kind of Mozartian elegance. Instead of the conventional barnstorming bravura, Gerstein brings poetry, balletic grace and an infinitely wide range of timbres. Yet in no sense does the performance seem understated."

The score of this "original version" is available here:

(see "Version B" - first edition)

The 1998 Koch-Schwann recording with pianist Andrej Hoteev and the 2009 recording with Jerome Lowenthal are also original versions.

yes, it was thought that the individual who played the premier of the work, edited it out with a pencil because either it was too hard to play or too long.  Jurgensen, then apparently, agreed to make the cuts.  There is a lot of information on the web about that matter.
