Thank you for that fascinating post Toby. The audience were even more fascinating than the music! (I downloaded it and changed the aspect ratio to 4:3)

Umm...interesting musical/cultural viewing.
What on earth is an 'aspect ratio'?!

Yes - full/wide screen I can do.
Suspect there's a wee bit more to it than that...if Wikipedia is to be believed (hoping perhaps Ms. Henrietta will enlighten me as to what she actually means/does...and why it's an improvement in this case).

Before - with default aspect ratio

Change the aspect ratio to 4:3 in VLC Player

Ah - OK...see that you've slightly 'compacted' the screen; but it doesn't seem to eliminate any portion of the picture, and, to my poor old eyes, it's a moot point whether the main singer is brought into much better relief.
So, if you can be bothered, the second part of my question still seems to apply - why is it an improvement in this (or any other !) case.
Sorry, not trying to be awkward...merely curious about any software issues which I know nothing of ! If something's clearly good, I'll use it !
