When I heard this piece, another favorite composer quickly came to mind. This favorite was also Swiss and of the same general style and time period. Any guesses?
Peter Mieg (1906-1990) - Sinfonie (1958) 1. Allegro comodo 2. Tempo di Valse, moderato 3. Andantino semplice - Allegro Polnisches Rundfunk Symphonie Orchester Krakau,Leitung: André Froehlicher

I presume the intended resemblance is to Frank Martin, who he studied with. There are echoes, but I wouldn't say strong ones. Actually, I think the strongest resemblance is to Stravinsky, especially in the finale, which is strongly reminiscent of Jeu des Cartes.

Your presumption is correct! To further quality this, while Meig tends to be more lyrical and tonal than Martin, the echoes are there I find Martin's unique style is echoed by very few composers and that makes this music very special in my mind.. There is an abundance of Meigs fine music to sample on the tube. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=peter+mieg

Martin does indeed have a very individual style, and it's a great shame his work doesn't appear more frequently in the concert hall.

I highly agree...it is a shame.. Perhaps Martin's highly nuanced music is too difficult to get just right..it takes a great conductor, performers, and audio to get the best effect.
