I find it interesting that The 3 Larsson symphonies generated so little interest here.
It may be just a personal fondness for the music.

When I was younger I would have leapt at the chance to hear a Larsson symphony, back in the days when all I knew of him was the superb violin concerto. Now that I have heard them, I can only say that they are rather underwhelming by comparison.

Incidentally, that recording linked above is from a rather worn LP with a repeating groove which the uploader has not bothered to fix.

I did enjoy that recording.  Interesting that it is his other works that gained in popularity (Pastoral Suite, etc)....not his symphonies.    I have enjoyed the "God in Disguise" set that has been recorded multiple times.

And I think that tells us something.

Thanks for Larsson's First Symphony. It was a surprise to read that later he was the first Swede to adopt 12-note music. Also that his first three symphonies (1929-45) were all withdrawn! - I presume that includes this one?

All three symphonies have been commercially recorded, which is quite unusual for works that have been withdrawn by the composer. Nos. 1 and 2 are issued by CPO, No. 3 by BIS, all played by the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, under Manze (CPO) or Frykberg (BIS). There is also a CD of 1 & 2 on BIS, same orchestra, Frank conducting.

Rather a blatant rip-off of CPO's copyright, considering even the CD cover is shown! I'm not saying it's not common.
