Description: The ongoing completion of this BIS cycle brings another bonus DVD - a two-hour documentary (with English subtitles) “The Song of Life”, made in 1987 for Swedish Television in which we meet the composer himself, members of his family, colleagues from his time as an orchestral player and musicians such as the violinist Ida Haendel. As several of its predecessors, No. 14 is in one extended movement and is scored for large forces, including an expanded percussion section but it is set apart by traces of the twelve-tone technique the composer studied under René Leibowitz and Pettersson aslo quotes extensively from two of his early Barefoot Songs. Norrköping Symphony Orchestra; Christian Lindberg.

… music is not only an `entertainment’, nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.  RVW, 1948
