New thread, as this is not about Soviet symphonies. Intrigued by mention of Alexander Fliarkovsky, I found his Six Preludes and Fugues on YT, and I do recommend giving them a hearing. These are gem-like pieces, fairly simple as regards musical language, very melodic, at times one might say verging on the populist. But they are engrossing. Some would be superb as concert encores. I can just imagine the audience thinking, "Wow! What was THAT?"
The first fugue has a striking subject beginning with seven repeated notes!
I-III IV-VI

Yes, a very fine and extremely unheralded composer Just noticed from Wikipedia that he died, age 82, today or yesterday (May 8 Russia) NO ONE should miss these 2 beautys... Please spread the word about his music, he is deserving of much more notoriety.
