Since it's a great day for 'new' pieces on AMF, here's another which may be unusual enough to stir a little interest ?!

Steffen Schleiermacher:

Any thoughts ?

Steffen Schleiermacher:Theremin Concerto

That's a coincidence: when I connected to the forum and I saw this, I was actually listening to another Schleiermacher piece: the percussion concerto.

The Theremin is a fascinating instrument, as is btw the ondes Martenot. These two instruments close the gap between the standard instruments and the electronic music as we mostly know it. These two sound for me as a kind of "normal" instrument.

Hindemith was one of the supporters of the Theremin. When a composer of his stature was interested, there must be some value in the instrument. Messiaen did more or less the same for the ondes Martenot.
