Maurits (also Maurice) Schoemaker (1895-1964)

Feu d'Artifice (Fireworks)
(1924)
Originally written (1922) as a Rondo for Fanfare Orchestra. He re-composed it for a full orchestra.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?3l8acinlfteli3s

Symphonie en la mineur (in a) (1946)
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?v49g31bbhas8a01
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?z2mwxr8v016m2zq

In this symphony no literary arguments, nor descriptive meanings. Here rule purely the musical forms. It is composed in 4 movements, 1. an entry followed by an allegro, warm and lively. 2. Then comes a Scherzo briljant and nervous; 3. A very lyrical adagio; and 4. a rondo bringing the work to the climax of his conclusion.

Maurice (Maurits in Flemish) Schoemaker belonged to a group called 'Les Synthésistes'. This group was born when a young composer wished to bring homage to his teacher, Paul Gilson, who reached the age of 60.
The group cannot be described as of a school, the young composers stayed musically fully independant. Schoemaker was initiator, the others were René Bernier, Gaston Brenta,Marcel Poot, Theo de Joncker and Jules Strens. Later Francis de Bourguignon became a member of the group.
They had a vision, what Gaston Brenta described as "Mould al the modern music methods in to a certain form". He meant without completely losing traditional composing.
Schoemaker never left  the tradition, but used it in combination with a modern style of composing. He stayed always his own in composition, may be due to the fact that he had four of Belgiums foremost composers as teachers: Théo Ysaye, Michel Brusselmans, Martin Lunssens and Paul Gilson.

Les Saisons du XXe Siècle (The Seasons of the XXth Century).

The 'Amitiés Artistiques' requested the above, asking four composers to create such a work.
The'Winter' would have been Moulaerts' work, but his untimely death, in 1967, changed this;
than they called Max VanderMaesbrugge for the job, who created his 'Winter' (1970) and
dedicated it to Moulaert.
The Amitiés wanted two younger and two older composers for the job. Gaston Brenta (b 1902)
wrote 'Matinés d'été (Summer Mornings). The 4th piece was by Jean-Marie Simonis. He wrote his
'Automne' (Autumn) in 1968.

Here are the four works:

Jacques Leduc (b 1932)   - Le Printemps (The Spring)

Gaston Brenta (1902-1969 )  -  Matinée d'Eté (Summer Morning)

Ernest Van Der Eycken (1913-2010)

- Poëma (1939)
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7la857afgw2s3ka

- Refereynen ende Liedekens (1959)
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?y89dlm1pk9fus3t

Kamerorkest (Chamber Orchestra)
The composer is the conductor here.

Ernest van der Eycken composed many vocal and instrumental music, but his strenght was writing for strings. He himself was a very good alto violin player. He was a member for many years with the foremost Belgian orchestras.

Poëma is very attractive, beautiful work. Refereynen is a Suite on Flemish folksongs. He arranged many folk songs for string orchestra. A little like Bartók and Kodály did with Hungarian songs.

This is one of the two orchestral pieces of De Boeck, that are regularly played. The other work is 'Fantasy on two Flemish Folksongs'. His opera 'Winternachtsdroom' (Winter Nights Dream) and the ballets 'De Nachtvlinder' and 'Assepoester' ('Moth'; Cinderella') were on stage several times.
