I don't think this Zommers is the same as Vladimir Sommer. Maybe our member Latvian can enlighten us? Quite right -- no relationship between the two whatsoever. As far as I can tell, "V. Zommers" was merely on of many faceless arrangers of popular music in the 1930s in Latvia. I've never found any further information on him in years of exhaustive research. As far as I can tell, Kaktins is the conductor. Alfrēds Kaktiņš is the soloist. He was a renowned operatic baritone in Latvia in the interwar period and was among the many Latvian who fled when the USSR re-occupied Latvia in 1944. He died in Los Angeles in 1965 at the age of 80. He was also one of many prominent singers who recorded "light" much in the vein of current crossover artists. The recordings on this CD are all reissues from 1930s recordings originally issued on 78 RPM discs on either the Bellaccord-Electro label and/or HMV. In all cases the orchestra and conductor are anonymous, never having been acknowledged on the original issues. Many of these recordings were also reissued on LP in the 1960s on the Latvian Music label in Sweden. |

The last 2 minutes are missing in the file of KALSONS Romualds: "Symphony for Chamber Orchestra No. 2 (Somu simfonija [Finnish Symphony])" (1992), LMA-orķestris Sinfonia Concertante, Andris Vecumnieks.
The file ends abruptly.
If you could re-upload the work in its entirety, I would be very grateful...

Unfortunately I don't have the movements' tempos - they weren't listed in the LR3 archive from which I recorded the work. When I uploaded it to UC I omitted the spoken introduction as I don't understand Latvian.
