Have an excellent stay in Berlin!  Will you have the chance to hear any music whilst you are there?

Some would claim Berlin is now the classical music capital of Western Europe...

I'd be interested in your feedback, as we are going to be flitting between Berlin and back during November/December/January in connection with a new opera production there.

As far as music is concerned....I really don't know. Maybe but I am doubtful.

I am visiting with a family including a 15 year-old boy who is fascinated by history. My role (as an ex-history teacher) will probably be to act as a sort of historical adviser as we visit as many sites, museums, palaces as possible ;D

I'm sure you already have it on your list (!) - but I do recommend a visit to Potsdam, while you're there?  It's easily achieved, since it's right at the end of the S-Bahn line (the final stop) from the main city.  The area covered by Potsdam is rather extensive, so it's worth taking the little bus tour that leaves from the S-Bahn station forecourt - it takes you to Sanssouci, and the other palaces (which are beyond reasonable walking distance). But perhaps of greater interest for your young charge on the trip is that it also includes the 'secret' Cold War locations - the bridge where prisoner exchanges were made; the former KGB HQ in E Berlin; and the location where Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin met to decide the post-war carve-up of Europe. There's also the story of the peculiar little village of Alexandrovka - when German-Russian relations were in a far happier state :)

The historic centre of Potsdam is very charming, and makes a complete change from the concrete-and-steel metropolis of modern Berlin - impressive though it all may be :)

But I hope you might hear some music in Berlin too :)

Oh yes...a full day at Potsdam is very much on the agenda :)

The Reichstag is closed for cleaning this week, so the Reichstag Dome will be one of the very last items on our itinerary on Sunday evening.

Just in case anyone thinks that I have disappeared ;D...

I shall be in London until next Monday-so I am unlikely to be on here much if at all over the next six days.

(The right thread this time! ;D)

More than six days and, rest assured, you'll have your own personal thread! :o ;D Which reminds me of the time I stayed away from my local for 6 months. When I went back I remarked to the barman that I'd been away for a while. He looked at me in surprise. "You've been way?" he said. :( :( :(

NB: More than 28 days,Dundonnell, and there'll be a police helicopter launch!

Incidentally,"Don't forget to pack your Fricker" sounds allot better than "Don't forget to pack you're Rubbra!" Don't ask me why?!! ::)
