Jouni Kaipainen sadly passed away Monday after A long battle with cancer. An engaging and lovable man who happend to be a very fine composer was still active to the very end.. His 5th Symphony remains incomplete. Can someone please download a recording of the 4th Symphony "Commoedia"?

I have a recording kindly supplied by another member. I will need to seek his approval.....unless he himself gets there first :) I should, of course, add that the death of Kaipainen at the age of only 59 is very sad news.

I also read about Kaipainen's death. Sad news indeed, especially since he was still far too young for passing away.
Now, Colin, of course I remember it was me who sent you the recording of his Symphony No. 4. In principle I would be willing to share the piece. However, there is a problem. I got this recording from a former member of this forum who explicitly and deliberately stopped sharing recordings in public because he was unhappy with so much being forwarded to YouTube (for legal reasons). As he does no longer want to upload his stuff in public you might understand I feel really bad about sharing what he sent me in his place. Sorry!
However, if somebody is interested in the recording just send me a note and we can do this in private.

Hi Brian,
could you check your mails? In fact, I did not receive that e-mail you spoke of, and when I tried to write you on my own using the e-mail address I found in your profile I got note my e-mail could not be delivered (quote: "Your mail could not be delivered because the recipient is not accepting any mail. If you feel you received this in error, please contact the recipient directly and ask them to check their email settings.").
Anyway, as soon as I can reach you by mail you'll of course get the recording.
Best wishes, Holger

I saw that story in the Finland Times: http://www.finlandtimes.fi/culture/2015/11/24/22630/Composer-Jouni-Kaipanen-passes-awayComposer Jouni Kaipainen died in early Monday morning in Tampere after prolonged illness. Kaipainen was born in 1956, and would have turned 59 today. He studied at the Sibelius Academy, first under the Aulis Sallinen administration and later under Paavo Heininen from 1975 to 1982. Kaipainen was a founding member of the Finnish youth composer association Korvat Auki (Ears Open), along with Esa-Pekka Salonen, Kaija Saariaho and Magnus Lindberg. His parents are writer Anu Kaipainen, a doctor, and former minister Osmo Kaipainen. Kaipainen's compositional work has been described as a synthesis of expressionism and classicism. Last summer, his new trombone concerto premiered at the AVANTI Summer Musicfest. His numerous works include concertos for various instruments including violin, piano, cello, bassoon and oboe, four symphonies as well as plenty of vocal and chamber music. Kaipainen told STT on his 50th birthday interview that he was a “silent composer”. “My instrument is the computer. In fact, I don't use any sound at all,” the composer said. His dearest hobby was literature. - See more at: http://www.finlandtimes.fi/culture/2015/11/24/22630/Composer-Jouni-Kaipanen-passes-away#sthash.AeDItFCZ.4SVbMZhl.dpuf

A very proper and considered response. It is very, very generous of collectors to share music they have themselves recorded with others of like mind. This is done with certain obvious caveats, including the recipient not abusing the trust placed in him or her by then "splashing it all over the net" (if I may be permitted such a crude way of expression). If this happens then the donor will-justifiably-be very upset. In such circumstances collectors sometimes refuse to share any more music with anyone or only with those who they can trust completely. That is why I responded in the way I did to the original request and Holger has now followed that up. It will be very frustrating when a particular piece is not shared publicly but the wishes of the source must be respected.

This is very sad news. I remember going to the UK premiere of his 1st Symphony on the South Bank, with a pre-programme talk by Kaipainen, who came across well in talking about his music. Less familiar with his more recent work, but will go back and listen to the recordings which are available.
