Much appreciated. This was the first Holmboe piece I heard, on Robert Simpson's Innocent Ear programme. Subsequently bought the record, but haven't heard this version for a while. Personally felt it was a much sharper account of the Sinfonia boreale than Hughes' in the BIS cycle.

Crikey - that takes me back: I bought about three copies over the years, trying to find one that didn't have a persistent "swish". (As I recall, a common problem with Turnabout LPs ?) And as Noel Coward probably meant to say' "Strange how potent old LP sleeves can be." (Some of the old Ace of Clubs/Decca Eclipse covers have a positively madeleinesque effect - instantly evoking and recreating an entire world of lost sensibilities and experience...)

One of my very favorite works of all time! And still my favorite performance.

I have a dub from a Danish HMV release of this performance that is superior to the Turnabout LP (and without significant surface noise). If anyone desires it, I can upload lossless files.

Likewise, the Turnabout LP was my first introduction to Holmboe, and this is still my favourite of his symphonies.

Okay, I will try to upload this in the very near future. Please have patience if I don't get to it immediately!

The upload has now been posted, coupled with an upload of a live performance of Holmboe's 5th Symphony, also an exciting work.
