Tucked away in late night listening - Rozhdestvensky playing a concert of British music from Moscow (?) including Parry's English Symphony:

and some Bax and Tippet, et al

Wouldst that some British conductors were as adventurous...

Well, having listened to both concerts on the i-player, I have to say that, rather than imbued with an extra Slavonic fire, the performances were for the most part decidedly cautious and safe - though well played, which suggests it was a matter of interpretative choise rather than shortage of rehearsal time. The Russian audiences seem enthusiatic about this presumably unknown music, though I can't help feeling they were being rather short-changed...Nothing revelatory then, but an interesting curiosity...
