Jan Freidlin has an abundance of things on YT that deserve a spin.
Generally, this composer writes tonal music which is slow to develop and much inclined to understatement.
Some of it might be considered semi-classical and/or crossover
But patience yeilds rewards.

Perhaps this was not a worthy reccomendation but I thought that out of so many things, some were worth passing on.
understatement and patience are the key words here..

Yes - sorry, Mr. JR; I certainly was happy to learn about Freidlin, & took the Poem, & the 3rd Symphony, but there are indeed other works (& I only go for orchestral, being too stupid to appreciate chamber/solo) on his Channel worth a look !

You have 1 convert, honest !

Thanks for the feedback CV.
I was concerned I might be promoting "crossover" music which is distasteful to some. There are a number of other orchestral works here.
While this composer is quite prolific, my preference is also orchestral with limited or wordless vocals/choral. Small ensembles and recitals are seldom on my menu.
I suspect it is because I'm not a professional musician...and I am aware that it is a "blind spot" for me as are operas, oratorios and most cantatas.
But I don't want to exclude the choice for others, so I include them when I think a composer has merit.
Sorry to get off subject, but Re cantatas, this one by VLobos is a notable exception and there is another notable one by Bartok, the title escapes me.

Ah, no, not 'into' operas, but oratorios/cantatas are my favourites of all, so you can't go 'off topic' there with me !

Didn't have the Villa Lobos - thanks, now corrected ! Bartok...there's the Cantata Profana, which I do have; unless you've another if it comes back to mind ?!
