It is interesting is it not that he does not suffer from the hair-loss that plagues his brother and his uncles.

Oh, don't YOU start hyphenating words that require no such devices! Frankly, the remainder of the article relates associated tales of woe far greater than that of the input of Prince Harry the new-found tambo-banger; were HM the Queen privately to wish that this entire depressingly tiresome Lucy-in-th-Sky-with-Diamond-Jubilees farce would simply go away, one could hardly blame her. Whatever some people may think of her (and I happen to know several staunch British Republicans who nevertheless admit to being convinced that the British monarchy should survive as long as does its present incumbent), 60 years in the gig and counting is no mean achievement, so the prospect of what this article warns its readers will be served up as the "musical" part of the "celebrations" thereof is sufficiently appalling as to make one wonder why anyone would seek so wilfully and thoughtlessly to insult her therewith.

Indeed.  We wonder if Mellors the gamekeeper was follically challenged? ;)

I suppose it's true that she didn't mark herself out for the job.

It still seems rather depressing that bloodline is all you need to rule C21st Britain.

...and arguably just as depressing that all you'd need to rule it in the absence of the monarchy is a president elected by people of whom many will have allowed themselves to be brainwashed in advance and some of whom wouldn't (and needn't even be expectd to) have much of a clue in any case as to what characteristics and abilities might make a good president - you have only to look at some of the kinds of people who get to be prime or other ministers under the current régime to be able to appreciate that - and it might well be a matter of some wonderment to some people that the Republicans whom I mentioned take the view that they do...

That's true.  But the fault then lies with a ropey constitution which permits a few dubious-elected hands to hold power. The decision to go to war, for example, should not rest with one man alone - yet currently it does.  All it takes is one yankee suck-up keen to make himself useful to Uncle Sam - and mysteriously the British Army is blowing dusky-skinned people to oblivion willy-nilly.

And all backed by people like Perfect Wagnerite and his odious chums.

Quote
timbrel

In this context it was adopted with great vigour by those ladies of the Salvation Army unable to perform on any kind of pitched instrument

The tambourine has thus become an unwitting icon of the Temperance movement.

However, if it was ever known as the symphonia, then this was an error. The medieval symphonia was a wheel-bowed string instrument, known as the vielle a rou in French, or the hurdy-gurdy in English.  They are still popular in France, in Central Europe, and the Balkans...   the last song of Winterreise is an eloquent testament to the simply nobility of the instrument.
