...and arguably just as depressing that all you'd need to rule it in the absence of the monarchy is a president elected by people of whom many will have allowed themselves to be brainwashed in advance and some of whom wouldn't (and needn't even be expectd to) have much of a clue in any case as to what characteristics and abilities might make a good president - you have only to look at some of the kinds of people who get to be prime or other ministers under the current régime to be able to appreciate that - and it might well be a matter of some wonderment to some people that the Republicans whom I mentioned take the view that they do...
That's true. But the fault then lies with a ropey constitution which permits a few dubious-elected hands to hold power. The decision to go to war, for example, should not rest with one man alone - yet currently it does. All it takes is one yankee suck-up keen to make himself useful to Uncle Sam - and mysteriously the British Army is blowing dusky-skinned people to oblivion willy-nilly.
And all backed by people like Perfect Wagnerite and his odious chums.
