A pleasantly frank and well-informed piece from the DALLAS NEWS - not a publication I frequently consult, I should add - about developments at the Van Cliburn Piano Competition.  The competition's organisers seem to have thought long and hard about what is "wrong" with piano competitions generally, and how these issues might be addressed in their own competition?

The results of the Van Cliburn have erupted in a tumult of opprobium and counter-accusation of bias.

The Wall Street Journal sees it this way - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124458728669699751.html - but there are just as many articles (see the Dallas Press quoted in the post above, for example) who interpret it differently.

Reiner... as a Dallasite, I have gone to the competitions many times and have enjoyed the opportunity.  Also radio station WRR broadcasts many of the performances live.. .. interesting article.
