Tom Service in the Grauniad reminds us that we've largely overlooked Debussy's anniversary this year...

As a youth I rejected both De-Bussy and Chopin because of their intentional vagueness. They set out to be misty! Impressionism was at that time contrary to my ęsthetic principles. It still is, for the most part, but I have nevertheless come to enjoy Chopin's Studies and De-Bussy's Sea Symphony.

Impressionism: sensations rather than thought what! No thank you! Lazy! Hume all over again.

In youth one - having little extensive experience - is more thrown back upon principles is one not - their discovery their construction their observance - than is one in what is called maturity.
