As the Intro clearly states, its hard to explain why Stenhammer literally "sat on this music to boost his piano stool" for so many years..perhaps it was too lengthy, perhaps too derivative of Brahms.
Whatever the reason, I urge fellow members to give it a spin..It's a fine symphony....

I attended the first professional British performance of the symphony a month ago in Perth: BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra/Andrew Manze.

It is a worthwhile work.....a bit too long and with some sections which could have done with trimming but there is some magnificent Brucknerian brass work (the ending is magnificent). A bit of a mixture of Brahms and Bruckner. Stenhammer never strikes me as particularly "Swedish"...but that may, of course, increase his appeal :)
