Using Kickstarter to fund the unsung composers

Has anyone ever thought of raising cash to record and distribute some of the unrecorded works of __________??

A few years ago, Klaus Heymann sent me a note about that:

I understand from Martin Anderson at Toccatta, he has contracted with the Siberian Symphony Orchesta to do just that.

You know, I've had the idea rattling around in my head for some time, but I would have no idea of where to begin with it.  Might be an avenue worth pursuing, though...
