According to the cd booklet notes for the new Paul Graener release from CPO is the information that Werner Andreas Albert is recording all five symphonies by the German composer Harald Genzmer with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Saarbrucken Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Harald Genzmer ??? ???

Well I cannot improve on the Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harald_Genzmer

I have not heard a single note of Genzmer's music. A strange choice from CPO ??? ???  Ahead of Butting or Cilensek, for example ???

Holger......... ???

He does seem pretty much like CPO's metier.

"Solid", "well crafted", "accessible" etc, Hindemith or JN David kind of stuff. I imagine if his estate (or whatever) has come up with the funds, there's no reason for them not to. A strange choice from CPO would be more along the lines of the complete orchestral works of Hans-Joachim Hespos :P

Genzmer's music is entertaining, Hindemithian music. He was also a composer that wrote for a curious instrument, the trautonium (an early electronic instrument  sort of like the ondes martenot). Hindemith also wrote a bit for it, but Genzmer wrote a bit more. I'll keep an eye out for that new CPO release.

My misunderstanding obviously :-[

I had understood that Albert was recording these for CPO. It appears that he is doing so for Thorofon and that, as has been said, some of the symphonies have already been released.

Thorofon is not a label which is easily encountered in the U.K.

Definitely not news that shakes the rafters.  One imagines what might have been instead...

I have one CD of Genzmer's music that I picked up in Vienna. Not a patch on Butting ... pretty much gebrauchsmusik.
