1st part of violin concerto - the second part, + his guitar concerto....and probably other offerings, are on YT.

Another to add to list of fine modern Finns, like Kokkonen & Saariaho, of course, but also Linkola, Lindberg & Puumala.   Any others we should be looking out for ?

And on... indeed ! And so much terrific music from them. Hope perhaps, though, that Fagerlund might be a new one for some/many of our colleagues !?

Up at 06:15am this morning, to hear a relay of Olli Kortekangas's one-act opera GRAND HOTEL

In that very-fashionable 1980s genre, it's a one-act piece without a plot - more of a song-cycle of eight surrealist poems.

Extremely nice and attractive music, although (as always) I was looking for how this could be brought to the stage, and was left baffled in that regard ;)  But apparently it has been staged, like most of Kortekangas's work - he gets good support in Finland in this regard.

What I liked most was the scoring - incredible to believe you've actually heard a chamber piece? :)

These are not young Finns, but if you want to hear great modern orchestral Finnish music by some more off the beaten path composers, get this disk:

Very colorful, approachable music. It should appeal to most people here.
