I recently discovered a book called "The Beauty of Belaieff" that any music lover of Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Liadov, Cui, Rimsky-Korsakov would want to own. anyway this book is about a person who brought Russian music to the western world.
If you know anything about the Genealogy of the development of Russian music... John Field, Dehn and Mendelssohn were important in the development of Russian music... Field taught Glinka, who in turn taught Balakirev.. who in turn taught Rimsky,Borodin, Cui and Mussorgsky (the "mighty five").... Dehn and Mendelssohn taught Rubinstein and Dargomizsky.. Rubinstein taught Tchaikovsky... Belaieff was responsible for the promotion and publishing of all the composers starting with Rimsky onward.
