Not orchestral, but a wonderful exotic work is Godowsky's keyboard Java Suite. Colin McPhee's two symphonies are favorites with me also.

Great spot, Toby! Those are indeed the first recordings of the Uzbek and Turkmen suites. I wonder if that CD is available on, say, Amazon or if you have to order through that site......

An interesting work (i've to add that  Rimsky Korsakov, Balakirev ,Alabyev and Rachmaninov were of "turkish" descent):

What is the first link?  Is it safe?  (I can see that the second link is a book.)

christopher asks a perfectly reasonable question.

Over the past month or two the point has been made repeatedly that the posting of links on this site must be with full consideration for the safety and security of other members.
There are links which are quite obviously trustworthy and verifiable. Members can see this from the "wording" of the link. Others may be to unfamiliar sites, addresses. Members may, indeed should, be initially wary of these in fear that they may, inadvertently (or just conceivably maliciously), take them somewhere they do not want to go. We are probably all recipients at one time or another of emails (sometimes but not invariably spam messages) which contain a link which arouses suspicion.

The advice is always NOT to click on such a link. This is the advice on this site.

The very strong recommendation to members who wish to post a link which may cause any degree of uncertainty is to briefly but clearly explain the source of the link and the site to which it will take other people.

This is a recommendation and a warning! The (relatively) new Administration has absolutely no desire to be or be deemed to be draconian but security is a priority and an obligation.

The first link is to a post-graduate thesis on Russian Orientalism submitted at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. This too can be worked out from the link - though not immediately obvious, I admit. If you look carefully through the whole of the URLs you can see that both are links to PDFs, which are harmless.

And all we are asking is that something along the lines of the first sentence in the previous post is added by the member who posts the link. This should absolve others from any need to study the link in detail.

It is an equally fair point that Toby makes.

Members, or at least members who have been here for some time, will probably take into consideration the 'reputation' of the member posting the link.
